Help connect St Blazey

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of St Blazey’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

I deviated slightly from the route because I was completing the Saints Way, so went above/around Polkerris and took a less urban route into Fowey at the end....

If you wish to take the lower and more direct footpath into Trethurgy (It has been cleared recently :) ) be aware there is a very narrow metal zigzag barrier. Walk straight through the second footpath in front of you and head north up and through the village to rejoin the route....

This is a beautiful slowway taking in lush woodland, the magnificent Treffry viaduct and sweeping open farmland. If by luck or design you prefer to take the lower path through the valley this is also fine, just pass under the viaduct and go up the steps near the Luxulyan car park for a short climb to the viaduct walkway to rejoin the route....

There are some chained up, very aggressive, dogs that gave us a start in Lantyan - but other than that, no problems at all. The section around Milltown Wood in particular is very beautiful....

I do wonder if an alternative that drops into Par via the Saints Way, rather than using the coast path, might be viable - and possibly even shorter and more direct. But that doesn’t detract at all from this route, which is fabulous....

Walk this route

Easy to navigate along the streets of St Austell, quiet lanes and obvious footpaths. The only issue I encountered was a fallen tree across the footpath at one point - which was easy enough to duck under, but would have been a problem when my back was worse. Other than that, definitely worthy of inclusion in the slow ways network....

Walk this route

It dips in and out of the Saints Way but be mindful to hug the coastpath between Par and Polkeris and take a more direct route into Fowey if you wish to stay on the slowway....

Walk this route

Cross the stream on a narrow bridge (just a concrete sleeper) and follow the path uphill through two very narrow kissing gates onto the road. From here you have three options; chill out in cemetary Park, follow the road down into St Austell or walk up the steps into the station car park and follow the footpath that will take you past the station and to the second bridge fo onward walking to Penwithick....

Lovely route: I did not know it existed but I will definitely spend more time in Lostwithiel now. The Marsh areas close to St Blazey and the river walk near Lostwithiel is well, marshy, after heavy rain but the path is sound. Be alert crossing the B3269 otherwise a great walk....

Walk this route

The route then follows a small stream through peaceful woodland. At the end of the path you reach treesmill where the route then follows quiet country lanes which take you up and down hills until you reach the B3269....

Leaving the town is straightforward, following the river, then taking a public footpath round the back of some houses and through a small woodland....

Walk this route

Despite not being a right of way, the start of this route follows a well trodden path alongside a waterway to the bottom of the Luxulyan valley. They are bumpy paths, and the slow way route goes up a fairly steep hill for a decent ammount of time. However, it seems generally that all paths are connected in some way, so you can end up at the right end of the valley eventually. The official route takes the road around the village to the other side, but there is a short fairly busy stretch with no pavement....

St Blazey has amenities such as shops/pubs and public toilets, and is also close to Par train station, useful for onward travel to west Cornwall, north Cornwall, Devon and beyond....

Walk this route

It mostly follows the Saints Way from Fowey, then joins the coast path just above Polkerris; you could stay on the Saints Way if you’re happy to bypass Polkerris....

If arriving in Lostwithiel, turn right when there are 2 bridges on either side, then follow the river into town....

Walk this route

Quiet, leafy country lanes, good quality and well signposted footpaths, rolling hills, photogenic coastline and good views. You really feel like you are getting one-up on other modes of transport. I diverted for the last mile or so, just the outskirts of Par and St Blazey but it's mostly residential streets and they are very unlikely to pose any problems....
